INTERSECTION

BIOGRAPHY

“Dazzling!” hail critics, who have noted that “INTERSECTION has forged a winning formula…breaking down the barrier that normally exists between performer and listener.” In melding the expressive refinement of a chamber concert with the glamor and excitement of a pop show, this piano trio has been a game-changer in the world of concert music. Bouncing between trios, duos, and solos, INTERSECTION presents fully-memorized programs of stunning variety, programs that include not only the core repertoire in uniquely fresh renditions (e.g., trios by Mendelssohn, Ravel), but also the group’s signature brilliant arrangements of popular classics (Carmen, Rhapsody in Blue), Broadway (West Side Story), film music (John Williams, Ennio Morricone), and Latin (Piazzolla, Jobim).

Initially launching its career in Asia, INTERSECTION garnered immense television and print media coverage there, and was soon making two major Asian tours per year. Its catalog of CDs and DVDs issued by Pony Canyon and Fuji TV includes numerous chart-toppers that have sold in the hundreds of thousands. Since expanding its touring to the U.S., INTERSECTION has played as many as fifty American concerts a season, covering most of the lower 48 states.

Individually, each member of INTERSECTION has made a significant mark on the music industry. Violinist Laura Frautschi serves as a concertmaster and artistic director of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and holds title chairs in the New York City Opera Orchestra and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. Naumburg Award winning cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper (“sensational in concert”: NY Times) appears internationally as soloist, chamber musician, new music specialist and lecturer. Steinway Artist and GRAMMY nominee John Novacek is an active piano concerto soloist and chamber musician who records for Sony Classical, Philips, Nonesuch, Naxos, and EMI Classics.
