It was Piano Spheres' honor and delight to welcome Dr. William Chapman Nyaho as our first Leonard Stein Resident Artist in February of 2023. Dr. Nyaho's program fit perfectly into our residency's mission, which is dedicated to locating, supporting and presenting pianists from historically underrepresented groups who specialize in the performance of new music. During the course of his residency, Dr. Nyaho did a live radio broadcast, held a master class at a neighborhood music school in an underserved community, mentored an Emerging Artist, held a workshop at Pasadena Conservatory of Music, and performed a well received and highly professional concert of music by composers from the African Diaspora at Thayer Hall, Colburn School of Music. Throughout his residency Dr. Nyaho was very engaging and spoke eloquently to both audiences and students. His concert was attended by many professional pianists, including all of Piano Spheres' Core Artists, and all were impressed by his curatorial work, his musicianship and warm rapport with his audience. Piano Spheres recommends William Chapman Nyaho most highly, and look forward to the next time we can present him.

Many thanks to Dr. Chapman Nyaho for a wonderful and enriching presentation. My thoughts on the presentation were that Dr. Chapman Nyaho was engaging and kept us all well focused throughout. I learned about a lot of composers and particular pieces that I hope to learn and/or teach in the future. I appreciated the time he allotted for questions. His screen-sharing worked really well, and the audio recordings were clear and quickly cued. That was a full 90 minutes! I heard from several colleagues who were so pleased with the presentation and thanked me for booking Dr. Chapman Nyaho. Please pass on my immense thanks for his early-morning program. I hope to hear him perform and/or speak again at a future MTNA event.

It was an amazing presentation. I have heard from so many people who are just elated to have Dr. Nyaho and help to broaden our understanding of African music. He is absolutely delightful and everyone enjoyed all of his insights into music and resources that we can look for.

Thank you so much for your AMAZING presentation! It really was eye opening! Several of teachers already told me that they ordered your music and I am definitely going to do that too! I teach 50 pre college students at all levels and as great as the traditional repertoriors are, I must say, sometimes I do get tired of teaching same thing, so I am always looking for something new and can’t wait to teach some of the music in your books! I also went Eastman for my undergraduate performance degree in early 90s. So it is always great to meet a successful Eastman Alumni. You are now my role model

Everyone was very impressed and pleased with Dr. Chapman Nyaho’s work. The events were well attended, and there was lots of great feedback from faculty, staff and students. As chair of the School’s Racial Justice Task Force, I can confidently say that this project really helped to support and elevate the School’s work in DEI.

We were grateful to have Dr. Nyaho. The remote format worked very well. Both of his presentations were well-received….in general, our membership was more enthusiastic about his presentation on music from the African Diaspora than his presentation on stage fright.

Thank You for your inspirational and insightful both presentation and masterclass. I very much appreciate your patience as our technical support person was working through the issues today, and also a huge thank you for your generosity with the students!
